Regular Season Round 17: Basket Ostrava - Zabiny Brno 47-77

Bottom-rankedBasket Ostrava (0-16) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 77-47 loss to second ranked Zabiny Brno (14-3) in Ostrava on Sunday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Zabiny Brno dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Basket Ostrava 's 18. Zabiny Brno forced 23 Basket Ostrava turnovers and outrebounded them 51-26 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Canadian guard Shaylisha Colley (176-1996, college: Michigan St.) stepped up and scored 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and international Natalie Stoupalova (187-1998) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. Four Zabiny Brno players scored in double figures. Forward Sofie Kaducova (181-2007) responded with 10 points and 7 rebounds and the former international Pamela-Therese Effangova (178-1993) scored 10 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Zabiny Brno . They maintain second place with 14-3 record having five points less than leader USK Praha. Basket Ostrava lost their seventh game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings.
